Gambling and Burger Flipping: What kids like to do online.

This is a cool article from slate.com about kids and what they do on the internet. It seems appropriate for what we have been studying to understand why kids play on the internet and how it is different, or similar to, how we played as kids. Check it out.

I thought it was interesting that the Mom chose to poll students to see what they included in their favorites. As a mother of an eight year old daughter, her want to play on the computer far exceeds her want to watch television. In reading this article on Club Penguin, it made me think of these new stuffed animals called Webkinz. My daughter has juststarted a new school and these seem to be all the rage. Some parents for instance, use Webkinz computer time as a reward if they get their homework done etc. This virtual world is similar to the one in the article where they must play video games in order to get webkinz cash to take care of their animals etc. I am still conflicted on how I feel about these internet virtual reality/chat rooms.
